Nomens land, Newstead.

Bit of a spanner in the works… umm… but don’t blame the planning department!

Lucy and Julian are now looking into purely events for the future, as it seems that trying to carve out designated ‘parking’ in down town Newstead for the hordes that will no doubt create havoc there… is just beyond the capability of our shire council! Stay tuned!

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the fabulously industrious couple Lucy Mora and Julian Cairns, who have recently opened a  beautiful cafe/event space/shop called  ‘nomens land’ in Newstead, complete with a stunning wee shiny baby grand piano in the corner!

We got to know Julian initially, due to his impressive array of (work horse) vintage British cars, as he would roar in through our gates in the Rolls (complete with tow ball) and cart a number of items away.

So it was heartening to sit beside the ex-salvage yard Jetmaster fire place, with it’s recycled pressed red bricks and take in the deep honey tones of the beautifully cared for decor… whilst admiring the simple beauty of this old building being warmed by this new chapter of it’s life with just the right amount of Lucy’s whimsical style and colour and Julian’s classical idiosyncratic touches… the perfect combination!

BTW… Lucy has the most wonderful eye for products stocking the shelves in the shop next door (enter from the café) … gorgeous colours and delicious locally made items! Open Friday to Monday’s.. see their instagram account for details or phone them for an event booking: 0410452684
